artdump - episode 1

Just trying to keep things a little current.

For all the millions of fans curious about what's up with Bee-Eater, and our complete lack of printed material, i'll have to take the blame for not getting the THRASHED screen remeshed yet. Money is tight, and i think we're just more worried about the upcoming house situation. But once we're in, we're in business. We'll have the studio functional asap, and we'll be back to making those delightful/dreadful images.

For now, we're doing a couple t-shirt jobs.

Also, side-note, i'm working on a mini-graphic novel.

Routines, photos, and more disaster.

We're in the swing of it now and printing as fast as we can design. We've got our natural routine down for coating, burning, taping, and printing our screens too. Unfortunately, we managed to underexpose our 230 mesh on the last run and ruin it so we are taking a break from printing fliers, handbills, and posters until we can get a new 230 mesh screen or get our current one re-meshed. In the meantime we will be working on our first T-shirt printing job. Also, here are some process photos of the poster for the These Are Powers show at The Lemp Neighborhood Arts Center (A St. Louis DIY venue we support wholeheartedly. Lemp-arts.org for more details) on Sept. 9th:

Fliers and handbills for the Bellafea, Master/Slave, and Fromanhole shows. Visit lemp-arts.org for more details.

I apologize for the photo quality. Walgreens' photo lab ruins everything.

malarkey! disaster! the first couple days...

To put it bluntly, and briefly, on our first night upon receiving all of the supplies in the mail (which come to find out, the warehouse is literally 11 minutes from my apartment) we completely wasted a gallon of emulsion. A whole fucking gallon.
Exposed it? Accidentally mistook it for gooey candy? Tried to coat the walls with it, mistaking it for paint?
None of the above. We were advised to buy emulsion by the gallon and mix it by the quart, as this would be the most cost efficient way of doing things. Well...apparently, if you're off just by a little bit, you'll throw everything completely off. So after messing up a quart of the stuff, we attempted mixing the rest of the gallon and ruined it. A whole gallon.

So.

Day two and three, we actually go out and buy a cheaper, pre-mixed emulsion and use it instead. Though our screens still look mesy as shit, everything apparently works, and we are able to print flyers for Bellafea, Fromanhole, and Master/Slave. These two nights turn out to be a lot better than the night before.

Wrapping it up, we're sitting here waiting for a screen to dry, so we can start printing out the flyers for Human Host, and looking proudly at our stack of These Are Powers flyers. It's been a decent night, even though we ripped one of the hinge clamps right off the fucking table.
Also, i think we'll have to re-mesh our 230, as there seem to be emulsion remnants that bother us a great deal.

Such is life.

It's our current goal to really flood the scene with well designed, hand-screened flyers and just keep busy making and printing cool art. If for some reason you really really like prints that only use black ink (because we don't have anything else) you can email us, and we can...send...you one? Or you could wait for us to do cool shit.
